We Helped Flip get Back on Track, now let's Wrap Our Arms around John!

Today, as I was marveling at the success of the campaign to raise funds for Captain “Flip” Klein, I got a text from Sgt John Peck, USMC (ret.) saying that he was told to be prepared to get up to Boston as soon as possible for his double arm transplant since he is next on the list. John is one of a handful of the surviving quadruple amputees from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. John is also the Indy Fund's first Track Chair recipient and a volunteer case manager for the Indy Fund where he screens and helps other wounded veterans. Because John will have to remain in Boston for up to six months following the operation, and because he will have years of follow on procedures and therapies, we are attempting to

raise funds for John in the same manner that we did for Flip. John is a Marine, Luker is a Marine, and together we could not create a more un-professional PSA than what we came up with, but it gets the job done, and I don't think that it is possible to create something that conveys the message as well and comes more from the heart. I guess the donations will be the telling factor on that. Regarding the donations, like for Flip, 100% of these donations are going to John. All the donations made through John’s link are all electronically tagged for this initiative and that is where they will go. Should this thing go viral and more than what is needed for John's transplant be raised, John will still be the steward of how those funds are used. We feel that he earned that right. Most likely they will be going to help his wounded comrades in arms.

EVERY DOLLAR the you give will go to Sgt. Peck. Period.

INDY Fund Initiatives

Rehabilitation Equipment

We wish the government could provide our Veterans with the rehabilitation equipment they really need - but that is not the reality. The Independence Fund, with your help, buys equipment which will provide Veterans with the utmost independence - whatever it takes to help our brave men and women come back to a normal and independent life.

All Terrain Chair Initiative

Countless Veterans who have lost their mobility now have a chance to reexperience the outdoors with the help of these marvelous all terrain wheelchairs. No longer must our Veterans be confined to the pavement! Fishing, hunting, going to the beach, even playing with their own children in their backyard are all now possible - sweet Independence!

Hyperbaric Treatment Initiative

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

In 2013, The Independence Fund began its HBOT initiative. The concept is that by increasing the level of oxygen carried in the blood increases the level of healing. The initial block of treatment ranges from 4-6 weeks and then requires the occasional tune-up. Fundraising for the HBOT program is one of the top priorities for the fund in 2014.

The Independence Center

Palm Key is a serene getaway near Beaufort, SC located between the marshes, maritime forests, nature trails, fresh and brackish water ponds and boasts a myriad of wildlife. After caring for thousands of veterans, The Independence Fund has a vision to establish a center where our severely wounded could truly have a chance to heal their bodies, their minds and their spirits - a place that can help reconcile their sacrifice with their service.

Your help can make
